Text: Jeremiah 29:11; 3John 2
Academic excellence is the demonstrated ability to perform, achieve, and/ or excel in scholastic activities.
Academic excellence has been identified with achieving high grades and superior performance.
But academic excellence is more than just making good grades. It is the maximum development of your
intellectual capacities and skills in service to humanity.
intellectual capacities and skills in service to humanity.
It is necessary you define your purpose before getting enlisted into any institution of higher learning.
Case Study: the “Hebrew Children” Dan. 1:8
The very first chapter of our lives in the university should be the definition of purpose.
Note: A purposeless student is likened to a scalar quantity, with magnitude and no direction.
When a purpose is not defined then problems will be identified.
Three Kinds of People in this Journey
- The campers
- The climbers
- The champions
Point 1: Campers in the (Road) Journey to Excellence.
Eccl. 11:4
"Campers are individuals who lie in wait for target”.
The campers believe success can be achieved with or without any effort. The campers are very contented with their current exploit; they see nothing wrong with their state.
They are:
- Procrastinators’
- Excuse makers
- Distracted
- Ordinary
- Template. (Complete refusal to develop oneself)
Point 2: Climbers in the Journey to Excellence
Deut. 2:1-3.
Before you can start climbing you must determine to leave your place of comfort.
Climbers are those with the goal to reach the summit of a formation. They are able to make the decision and even attempt to succeed.
why they are not Achievers

- They experience close success syndrome
- They are very heavy with loads of activities ( if you must reach the peak of the mountain, you must travel light)
(You must define your scope of studies and maintain balance)

- Depend on God
Read books relevant to your academic excellence and consumptions.
Point 3: Champions at the Peak of Excellence.
Phil. 3:14-15
A champion is a person who has been able to surpass all rivals in any competition.
A person who strives to find out how great he or she can be.
The characteristics of the champion
- Strives to find out how great he or she can be (contemplated)
- Loves the battle more than the victory
- Hates to lose, but not afraid to lose
- Always competes with purpose and passion
- Learns lesson from losses
- Lives in the present moment
- Focuses on continuous daily improvement
